"The Kurdish people have a word—dengbêj—for a singer of epic tales of love and war, resistance and suffering. These bards belt out their songs at high volume. But for much of recent history, they have done so behind closed doors." Courtesy of Jungles in Paris

'The Dictionary' Premieres on Nowness
In collaboration with Jungles in Paris, filmmaker Meshakai Wolf created an excerpted version of his 2011 documentary feature, 'Flames of God.' The short, entitled 'The Dictionary' focuses on the film's subject, Macedonian Roma Gypsy poet and songwriter, Muzafer Bislim, and his 35-year quest to compile a handwritten dictionary of the Romani language.
Watch it on Nowness and please share with anyone interested in the Roma and their unique culture.
